Tradies insurance, in plain English.
Tradies insurance is the business insurance you carry because you work in a trade. It isn't one policy. It's a handful of covers, each for a different risk: the people and property around your work, your tools and vehicle, your workers, and you, if an injury or illness stops you working.
Most tradies start with public liability, because head contractors, builders and many clients ask to see it before you start. Tools and vehicle cover usually come next. If you take on staff, workers compensation insurance comes into it, and we can arrange it in every state and territory. Each state sets its own rules on who you have to cover.
We're brokers, not an insurer. We ask about your trade, your work and your contracts, get you quotes from insurers and explain what each one covers. The insurer decides the price and the terms.

Questions tradies ask us.
What does a tradie insurance broker do?
A broker arranges insurance on your behalf. We ask about your trade, the work you do and any contracts you need cover for, then get you quotes from insurers and explain what each one covers and what it doesn't. If you go ahead, we arrange the policy, and you can call us with questions while it runs. The insurer decides the premium, the terms and any claim.
Why tradies use an insurance brokerCan I get covered if my trade isn't listed?
Our trade pages cover the trades we're asked about most, and the quote form lists many more. If yours isn't there, choose Other on the quote form or call us on 1300 226 268 and tell us what you do. Whether an insurer offers cover depends on the work.
Can you arrange cover anywhere in Australia?
Yes. We have offices in Perth, Wodonga and the Sunshine Coast, and our brokers arrange cover for tradies right across Australia. That includes workers comp, which we can arrange in every state and territory. Each one runs its own scheme with its own rules, so tell us where you and your people work.
Do you help with claims?
Yes. If something goes wrong and you need to claim, call us. We manage your claim with the insurer from start to finish. The insurer decides whether it's paid and how much, under your policy.
Where do most tradies start?
Usually with public liability, then tools and vehicle cover, then workers comp if they employ anyone.
The covers most tradies carryWhat sets the price?
Your trade, turnover, the cover limit you choose, how many people work for you, how much you subcontract, your state and your claims history. The insurer sets the premium.
Why tradie insurance premiums go upI've just got an ABN. Do I need insurance straight away?
An ABN doesn't come with insurance, so check what your clients, contracts and licence ask for before your first job.
